Hello world! Looks like I'm going to be the first to sign the Guest Book Philippines ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gosh where to begin? Yes the island beaches ๐Ÿ are epic, yes the food is amazing, but I would rather to tell you something that you may not already know....

Like many others, there is a special place in my โค for the Philippines and all the wonderful people here. The Philippines experience is something that is hard to put into words, instead you really have to witness for yourself. You have to get into the thick of things. By that I mean, you can't hid between your condo, and the mall. I've been there myself, so I don't recommend visiting this country if you are going to be to paranoid the entire time. Know that the Filipino people, while they may seem judgmental at times, are generally happy that you are visiting, and are not out to get you.

Out of all my trips to the Philippines since 2009, I had the most profound life-changing experience when I moved to the country with my wife in 2016 to finish university. When one switches from vacation mode to residency mode in the Philippines, something amazing happens. If you've ever spent more then a year living in the Philippines without escaping back home for a breather, then you know what I'm talking about! Little by little you will find yourself becoming a little more Filipino, and to me, that's the real Philippines experience.

We will be going back home to the US next year, and while excited, I am also saddened. Many amazing things that have happened here, including the birth of my daughter. There are many people and places that I know in time I will miss. So I would like to take this time signing the Philippines guestbook to say 'salamat' to a few people and places that I am grateful for:

Pacho Family- Thank you for your patience. It's been a pleasure to have been given the opportunity to get to know you all better.

Cebu Doctors' University- Thank you for the opportunity to study at your stellar university.

My Classmates- Thank you for your hospitality. I am a complicated person sometimes but you never gave up on me. Your smiles made me feel comfortable in numerous uncomfortable situations ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Green Apple Dental at Ayala Center Cebu - Thank you for the professional work you did on my braces. Something that I've wanted for 15 years, and never thought I would be able to afford to get. You made that all possible, and with US Quality work. I'm very pleased, thank you!

Honorable mentions: "Koconut Kuya" as I called the coconut salesmen in my village in Subangdaku, the Water boy, The Social for the taste of home, and Brique in Ayala Center for serving me 1,000 times! Thank you to all the security guards, the PNP ๐Ÿ‘ฎ, and the Philippine Armed Forces for keeping everyone safe, your sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Salamat Philippines!

Yours,

-Derek
