Living Conditions

Due to land constraints in the cities many struggling families are forced to build homes alongside polluted waterways. These homes are without running water and proper hygiene facilities. In these living situations everyday tasks can become a fight for survival. Children are also charities in the philippinessusceptible to deadly diseases such as dengue fever that thrive in these wet environments. Despite these adversities the Filipino people who live here remain in high spirits, they do not complain, they have their pride and rightfully so.

With limited resources and a growing population that is out of control, hope can at times seem out of reach. In this unfortunate reality, some families are forced to resort to drastic measures to better their lives. Sometimes even small children can be caught in the middle of family affairs and finances, or can even be at the center of such desperate measures. Don't let this shock you, the reality on Earth has always been that charities in the philippinespeople have to do what they have to do to survive. Government programs and charities within the Philippines simply can not reach everyone. Rumor has it that the vast majority of these local charities are often exploited by the very individuals who run them. It's often reported that many donations and foreign aid that is sent after a natural disaster in the Philippines skips the poor and is hogged by the rich. It's easy to stay away from charitable giving in fear of one's money being exploited, but at the end of the day it's about the children, they are the ones who suffer the most. This is why we simply can not give up on Charities in the Philippines, we have to support those who are trying their best to give back. When visiting the Philippines it can be challenging when trying to navigate though all the "chismis" (gossip) surrounding begging "Street Kids." If you are concerned about the possibility of your donations ultimately making the situation worse, then our advice would be to practice one of the following three rules: 1.) give out only food 2.) only give to those who look hungry and did not ask for money 3.) donate to one of our experienced charities in the Philippines listed below. This way you can be sure that your donations are not supporting child labor or worse, being used to buy alcohol or drugs!
