A truly tranquil region with much potential! The Bangsamoro Region, formally known as “The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao” or “ARMM”, is a true diamond in the rough. The region as a whole is engulfed with a peaceful people who respect the land and only seek self government, meanwhile an unfortunate few give the region a bad name.
Although there are many great cities and villages in this region, not all are appealing to tourists. The recommended tourist destinations include: Lake Lanano, Tumingay Lake and the Bogo Diving Spot in Maguindanao, the Walled City of Jolo and it’s white beaches, Punta Beach, Sumpitan Falls and Barurao Springs in Lanao del Sur, Jikiri Cave in Sulu province, the tomb and mosque of Sheik Makhdum, white-sand Beaches on Malamaui Island, Sibutu Natural Wildlife Sanctuary and Pearl Farm in Tawi-Tawi, and finally Palm Beach and Balagtasan Falls in Basilan. The top 3 destinations by popularity are pictured below.
There is currently a Travel Advisory in effect for this region and it’s surrounding boarders as well as islands just off the coast of the Mindanao mainland. For time-being we would recommend sticking to the safer regions of North/Central Mindanao or inland Davao, seek a guide, and always avoid traveling at night. If the Philippine government ever officially opens the region for tourism, the country will never be the same again because one of the greatest tourist spots in the country will be available for all to enjoy.
