There is currently a Travel Advisory in effect for this region and it’s surrounding boarders as well as islands just off the coast of the Mindanao mainland. For time-being we would recommend sticking to the safer regions of North/Central Mindanao or inland Davao, seek a guide, and always avoid traveling at night.
Provinces: Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Cities: Zamboanga City, Isabela City, Dapitan, Dipolog, Basilan, Pagadian, etc.
Unique Culture & Color! The Zamboanga Peninsula (region 9), is the only region in Mindanao that is surrounded by water on almost all sides. Although not one of the safest places for tourists in the Philippines, do to ongoing tensions between the Philippine government and the Moro people of the region, there is still an undeniably amazing culture and history in this land. Perhaps best known for it’s great number of ethnic communities, this fact has molded the peninsula into what it is today. The region is also known for the popular Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center that offers top-quality medical care to the entire region.
Although their are many great cities and villages in this region, not all are appealing to tourists. The recommended tourist destinations include: Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Sibugay, Dipolog and Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Isabela City, Pagadian City, and Santa Cruz Island. at D’Hotel & Suites at the corner of Rizal Ave. & Osmena St. Excellent service, and location, at an equally excellent price. Free WiFi, cable TV, cool AC, and a courteous and friendly staff put this hotel above the rest. We also really liked how D’Hotel is right between the airport and Sunset Blvd., and within a safe walking distance to local shops!
with some affordable fine dinning at Tonino’s Resto and Wine Bar conveniently located within D’hotel! You will enjoy their fast service, quality food, and attentive staff. Breakfast here is amazing, so don’t sleep in two late! Dipolog truly has some of the best restaurants in Mindanao, but this is one of their more upscale locations that shouldn’t be missed. Even if you decide not to stay at the hotel, be sure to check it out anyway.
the boardwalk on Dipolog Sunset Blvd. A perfect place to go get some fresh air after dinner as it’s only a short walk from the hotel and restaurant. Many great places to get desert, walk, jog, do zuma, or hangout and enjoy the ambiance that sometimes includes live music. Folks come here for the sunsets, so don’t even think about coming here during the day, the sunset will blow you away! The entire boulevard is always clean, and secure. It is quite lengthy however, but don’t worry, there are plenty of restrooms along the way. Truly a romantic place to watch the brilliant sunsets that accompany this region.
